Zaporizhzhia takes up sonological themes and moods extending from my self-released album DNIPRO of 2022.
( jeffgburekprojects.bandcamp.com/album/dnipro ) There I developed a methodology for playing synthesizer and electric guitar simultaneously which continues here with new elements. I set some parameters for myself before recording the tracks but what would ultimately happen after I hit that critical, red record button got snapped up into the air and became dependent upon events as they were unfolding. Named after the city settlement in Ukraine, Запоріжжя, which was once the location of a river rapids which formed a natural boundary of defense for the former Empire, the present location, near a nuclear facility of interest to "Special Operations Forces", became a locus of great concern for all humanity wishing to avoid a second Chernobyl, owing to potential mismanagement. It remains unclear (an anagram for nuclear) who was defending whom from what in the campaigns to protect the facility. Some aspects of this uncertainty and tension inform and tinge the tonality and timbre of my sonospheres and play with the border of dysfunction and menace that I hope is balanced by the care and resolution of the final result.This album extends both the musical and sonorific grammar and focus of the Ukrainian Vigilance Suites which began with the double gatefold CD, plus pamphlet, generously issued by Ramble Records in Australia.

Musically, "Buzca" reprises the acoustic atmosphere of the Ramble Records release, while adding synthesizer and shortwave radio captures on the fly.
